Rose What? ROSE BOWL!
Hi, My name is Ian Rho. I'm currently 12 years old, and I swim for the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center (RBAC)'s competitive swim team in 11-12 Silver Group.
Each year, my teammates and I participate in a fundraiser called Swim-A-Thon to raise money for my TEAM. This year’s theme is “What does Rose Bowl mean to you?” To me, Rose Bowl is a swim team that has supportive teammates who give you the drive and motivation to continue going even after you have failed. Rose Bowl is also a place full of people that you can trust to have your back. I know this very well because I broke my collarbone in late October last year during school PE playing football. I was out of water and couldn’t practice for a month. I struggled and felt that I couldn’t do anything else. But with great coaching and supportive teammates, I was able to come back stronger and faster. I even made it to the Spring Junior Olympics!
What does swimming mean to me? Swimming is a sport of dedication, hard work, and determination. It also is to me a lifesaver because the 2nd leading cause of death in children under the age of 14 is drowning. Learning to swim can save lives.
Swim-A-Thon is a fundraiser to raise money for our swim team to keep it running smoothly. The money raised through Swim-A-Thon will provide important financial assistance programs such as our Scholarship Program for those swimmers whose families need help.
On May 18, my teammates and I will be swimming 200 laps (5000 yards or almost 3 miles!) to raise money for our TEAM! Please donate what you can (EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!) to help my TEAM reach our goal.
